I recently found an excellent article on inbound link building written by a guy called Jayson Brown. Link Building is something I touched on within my SEO and getting up the Google Rankings article that I recently wrote. What I liked about Jayson’s article is that it followed a very similar writing style – no jargon, just straightforward talking. You’ll also find many other interesting articles on his site if you want to learn more about this subject – I’ve put a link at the bottom of this page.

So, enough talking, let’s get on the article . . .

“Many search engine experts and I agree that one of the important factors in ranking highly in search engine results is link popularity.

You have probably heard many of them talk about the importance of inbound links to your website and its impact on your search engine ranking.

The problem is, although link building is one of the most important elements of search engine optimization it is also one of the most time consuming.

That is why many good web sites don’t rank as well, because it is a lot of hard work.

The more inbound links you have, the higher your website will tend to appear in search engine results.

It is proven that inbound links can improve your search engine rankings by raising the popularity of your site while increasing your traffic.

An effective link building strategy is not trying to take short cuts no matter how appealing they are.

Inbound link building should be an organic process that shows a progressive increasing number of links pointing to your website.

Although most find submitting to various social bookmarking sites and directories tedious I quite enjoy this activity.

Inbound links should be divided into three main categories:

Social Bookmarking sites
Web Directories,
Design Showcase sites,

Depending on your marketing audience, I recommend submitting to all three.”

Thanks again Jayson for this excellent summary of the key points. The bit that I particularly like is the reference to ‘no short cuts’ as this is a point that we’ve spoken about on the Internet Mums.net site a few times. Effective SEO takes time, patience and persistence.
